Mask of Pregnancy
Mask of pregnancy (or chloasma/melasma to give it it’s official name) can occur in up to 70% of pregnant women according to the American Academy of Dermatology. It is most common in women with darker complexions and takes the form of darkened areas around the upper lip, nose, cheekbones and forehead.
The pigmentation is caused by hormonal changes during pregnancy and the discolouration should fade within a few months of you having your baby. For some women however the darkened areas never completely disappear.
